Music generates Memories & Songs take us back to happier times
Vern's daughter asked, "Would you be willing to play guitar at my father's bedside? He is in hospice in my home." When I arrived, she met me outside and said, "He'll only be awake for about 20 minutes, but he loves music." With guitar in hand, I met this lovely gentleman, and, by the Grace of God, knew every song he requested. After an hour of playing, in a quiet voice Vern asked if I'd like to stay for lunch. I said I would be honored. We ate, and then he said, "How about come more music?" I played for another hour. At this point, Vern was ready for a nap. I thanked him for his hospitality, and left. His daughter followed me out. In tears, she said this was the best day her father has had in months. At this point, we were both in tears.
I had the opportunity to play for Vern again at an assisted living facility and then the honor of playing at his funeral service.
